About Pregnancy and Birth Education
Pregnancy brings with it a range of emotions – excitement and joy as well as sometimes apprehension and fear of the unknown. The purpose of these sessions are to help mum and those supporting prepare for the physical and psychological changes during pregnancy as well as the actual birth.
The sessions are tailored to the needs of individuals and groups and as such the content will vary dependent upon initial assessments but are designed for anyone interested in the process of conception, pregnancy and birth. The classes can cover areas such as the workings of the female and male bodies and how to optimise chances of conception, the development of the baby in the womb, the changes in maternal body, how the body prepares for birth and how mum can support that preparation by understanding the physical processes.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The sessions can be delivered before conception or during pregnancy, delivered to mums alone or mums and support partners.
The classes may be of particular use for those considering pregnancy, first time mums, surprise pregnancies, young parents or mums with large gaps or previous negative experiences.
CURRENT CLASSES - An evening course comprised of 4 weekly 2 hour sessions There are a maximum of 6 couples per course enabling you to get to know each other as well as learning about what your body is going through during pregnancy, how your partner can support you, what to expect in labour, writing a birth plan and what to expect in those first few weeks after your baby arrives. The classes are very positive and look at what can be expected in 'normal' birthing. They will fully compliment any classes run by the NHS. The small classes allow plenty of discussion time and the classes are very interactive and fun! They are great value - currently £100 per couple for the four sessions.
